Today, June 16, 2009, Bulgaria was elected in Paris as a member of the Intergovernmental Commission on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Expressions at the Second Regular Session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The election of our country will enhance its international prestige, because through its work in this UNESCO Commission, Bulgaria will contribute to the practical application of the Convention, which offers more explicit ideas on the relation between cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and the promotion of creative industries, as well as the inclusion of culture as an element of one of the Millennium Goals, particularly sustainable development.
